A total of 57,091 junior school students attended the city's entrance examinations for high schools which were held on Friday and Saturday at 94 examination halls across the city.

There have been no reports of students being disqualified for arriving late or cheating, according to the city's examination and admission office on Saturday.

The results will be announced around July 8.

As with this year's National College Entrance Examinations (NCEE), telecommunication devices, electronic equipment, white-out, documents, opaque bottle and pencil cases were not allowed to be taken into the examination rooms.

Many students thought that the essay for the Chinese test, "Bright Because of You," was very easy to write. "The essay was easy and the task was simple. You can write about a person, an object or even an emotion, so everybody would have had something to say," said Wang Jing, a student at Shenzhen Experimental School.

However, some Chinese teachers thought it might be difficult to gain high scores as it was not easy to write something that set itself apart.

Many students also thought that the English test was very easy, too. "It was as easy as the questions we did in class. I think I could get a very high score," said a student surnamed Zheng at Luohu Middle School.

According to the plan, the city's schools for high school education period (including high schools, technical schools, vocational schools and other schools following junior schools) plan to enroll 58,697 students. It was the first time in Shenzhen that the number of applicants was lower than the number of places.

Among these, the city's public high schools will enroll 28,790 students, which means that half of the junior school students will enter public high schools. The rest will continue their studies at private high schools and vocational schools, the city's Education Bureau said Friday.
