The country's top universities plan to enroll more students from Guangdong Province, according to an enrollment introduction meeting held in Guangzhou last week.

Many universities said that as long as an applicant agreed to obey the university's arrangement for his/her major, they would offer more additional quotas for students from Guangdong Province.

Meanwhile, some universities in Guangdong also plan to enroll more students this year and many opened popular new majors to attract high school graduates.

According to the plan, Fudan University in Shanghai plans to enroll 2860 freshmen this year. Among these, 52 will be from Guangdong Province, slightly higher than the number last year. It also opened a new major for new science and technology experiments to promote liberal arts education in China. The major plans to enroll 10 students from Guangdong Province.

Nankai University in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, also plans to enroll 3230 students this year and 43 will be enrolled in Guangdong Province. Popular majors, such as Economics, Finance, Chemistry, Mathematics and Business Management, will expand their admission pool to Guangdong students this year. Meanwhile, the university also opened two programs this year, including Biochemistry and International Business. The International Business department will enroll two students from Guangdong.

The Chinese University of Political Science and Law also plans to enroll 2000 students across the country and about 90 will be from Guangdong Province. It opens a six-year program that aims to educate elite students in the fields of finance, economics and law this year, the university said.

Most of the universities in Guangdong Province also plan to enroll more students this year, but a few of them, such as Guangzhou University of Business Studies will enroll slightly fewer.

According to the plan, the university will enroll 4100 students, including 3545 from the province. Despite the decrease, it will open a new major, Business English, with 50 freshmen this year.

Meanwhile, the Guangdong University of Technology also opens an elite engineering program featuring Automation, Mechanical Engineering and Automation, Chemical Engineering and Technology, which aims at training professional engineers and technicians in the fields of manufacturing, construction and repairing, plans to enroll 165 students in the province.
