Building a love library
    2012-08-08  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

深圳外国语学校 王艺霖

During this year’s Qingming Festival, I went to Hengnan County in the southeast of Hengyang City, central Hunan Province.

It was a small county, not particularly prosperous. It was not easy to find a bookstore in the county. Seeing that children in the mountainous area didn’t have many books to read, I really wanted to do something to help. So I came up with the idea of building a library there.

When the summer holiday finally arrived, I began to put my plan into action. I persuaded some friends to work with me. We contacted our friends and families to collect second-hand books.

Last week my classmates and I arranged to meet at an underground station to collect books. At first, I thought that some of them might not come because of the heavy rain. But to our surprise, everybody came as promised. We carried box after box of books to the car. All of us were exhausted, but we were happy that we were doing something that was beneficial to impoverished children.

After that, we went to some classmates’ houses to collect books. I was moved by their enthusiasm and their willingness to help the children.

I learned that, deep down, people are generous. I hope more people can take time out from their busy lives to help those less fortunate than themselves.
