Anne Zhang zhangy49@gmail.com Students from 10 elementary schools and high schools in Shenzhen took part in the finals of the city’s first Juveniles Creativity and Charity Contest held on Saturday at Shenzhen Children’s Palace. The contest, aimed at advocating environmental protection, charity and culture, was launched in June and received more than 300 applications. The judging committee selected 110 projects for the initial audition. After two rounds of competition, 16 entered the finals. The 16 teams each gave a four-minute lecture and answered questions from 10 judges during the finals. Shenzhen Middle School’s talk about stopping shark fin consumption won first prize. Second prize was awarded to two charity projects proposed by Shenzhen Foreign Languages School and Shenzhen Middle School. And another two charity projects and a cultural project on traditional crafts won third prize. The winning teams received 3,000 yuan (US$473.7) to 10,000 yuan and will have an opportunity to go abroad and visit international charitable organizations. |
