The 10th 21st Century New Oriental Speech Contest for primary and high school students was held on Xin’an Middle School’s new campus on October 17, 2011. It was the first time that we had held such a large-scale event since the establishment of our new campus.

Twelve contestants qualified for the final round. All my fellow contestants were brilliant speakers with fluent spoken English and strong stage presence. All the English teachers and Senior 1 students enjoyed their speeches.

As one of the contestants in the speech contest, I was initially reluctant to take part in the competition. But with the encouragement of my teacher, I finally plucked up the courage to take part. In order to overcome my nerves, I had made the speech three times in front of my classmates before the final competition. Each time I gave a speech, my classmates listened to me carefully and gave me enthusiastic applause and helpful advice, which greatly increased my confidence.

With the support of my teachers and classmates, I won first prize.

Although the competition only lasted a short time, I got so much out of the experience.
