Never give up
    2012-09-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

On August 20, I climbed the famous Luofu Mountain, in Huizhou, Guangdong Province with some friends and our parents.

At about 9 a.m., we started climbing toward the Flying Cloud Peak which is 1,281 meters high. When we arrived at the foot of the mountain, we thought that getting to the top was easy.

The narrow mountain path leading to the summit was winding, uneven and steep so we had to be very cautious about our steps and had less time to enjoy the landscape along the way.

After getting to the half way point, I found it difficult to breathe and I was drenched with sweat and my feet dragged slowly. Two of my friends said: “Oh my god, I have to stop here…” Honestly speaking, I also wanted to give up at that moment. However, it was my father’s words that spurred me on: “Don’t give up!” I had to pluck up my strength to continue climbing.

Gradually, the team of climbers dwindled because some others gave up. I felt too exhausted to move on, even when the summit was within sight. My father said to me with encouragement: “90 meters are only half of a 100-meter journey. Come on!” I also told myself to persist. After a few hours, I finally became one of the few successful climbers.

When I arrived at the peak, I found the view was so beautiful — trees flourishing, stones of numerous shapes, clouds floating beside us and green mountains stretching far away. But if I had given up halfway, I would never have been able to enjoy the wonderful view!
