Autumn views in Guangdong
    2012-10-08  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

UNLIKE North China, Guangdong Province has warm and breezy autumns. Here are some places where you can take advantage of the nice weather.

Nanling National Forest Park

Located about 70 kilometers from Shaoguan City, Nanling National Forest Park is the largest forest park in Guangdong Province with a total coverage of about 300 square kilometers.

Many of the province’s highest peaks are located in the park, including the 1,902-meter-tall Shikengkong Peak and the 1,888-meter-tall Shijiuling Peak. They are the first and second highest peaks in the province.

The mountain has an abundance of waterfalls, springs and rivers. The water has never been exposed to pollution, so enjoying a swim in it can also be good for your skin.

There are also more than 2,000 types of plant and a number of rare animal species, making the forest a fun place to learn about biology and geography.

Fresh fruits, such as berries, kiwis and litchis, are all must tries in autumn.

It is advisable to bring an umbrella when visiting the park in autumn. Long-sleeved clothes are needed at night.

Transport: Drive to the park through Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway, Huanan Expressway, Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway and get exit at Nanling Park. The total journey is nearly 400 kilometers.

Shimen National Forest Park

Located in Conghua, Shimen National Forest Park is also known as “Fragrant Hills in Guangdong Province” due to its maple trees which cover an area of more than 2 million square meters.

In October, the park becomes a red sea with various types of leaf. There can be few more romantic experiences than walking beside the river in autumn.

The park also has plum trees covering an area of 660,000 square meters. You can take a short trip to the park again in winter to enjoy the red and white plum blossoms.

There are several other good locations nearby such as Shimen Scenic Spot, Shizao Scenic Spot, Valley Adventure Area and Tiantangding Scenic Spot in the neighboring areas.

After a long day of walking, you can unwind in Conghua’s hot springs.

You will need long-sleeve clothes and long pants at night when camping in the park.

Transport: Go to the park through Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway, Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway and No. 105 national highway. The total journey is about 300 kilometers. (Wang Yuanyuan)
