During the National Day holiday, hundreds of folk performances, themed “culture benefits people,” came to our town. All the shows were very impressive, particularly the performance of “Bamboo Dance by Li People.” The bamboo dance is a team activity that can be regarded both as a sport and as a dance. Four boys took out four long bamboo poles, standing a certain distance from each other. They held the pole end in hand, moving these poles rhythmically in different directions. Dancing girls hop between the poles while singing and simulating the actions of sieving grain and sharpening knives while leaping and praying. The host would warmly ask audiences to join in the bamboo dance. A girl carefully jumped into the space between two bamboos. She was afraid that the bamboos may nip her feet so she quickly moved them. At that moment, the audience burst into uncontrollable laughter. Then a toddler ran onto the stage to learn to dance. However, he just ran in circles and sometimes waved his hands and twisted his body beside the bamboos, but dared not jump between them. The ground felt like a wonderland. I figured out that the secret of jumping the bamboo dance is jump, jump, jump over. I overcame my inhibitions and rushed onto the stage to have a try. I must have been good at it because I won a Barbie doll as a reward. “Bamboo Dance by Li People” made my National Day holiday a happy one. |
