Turn ‘no’ into ‘yes’
    2012-10-17  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

凡珊珊

Once, there was a boy in my class who was good at Chinese and math, but his English was very poor. One day, he earnestly told the whole class: “I want to enter Tung Wah Junior High School (a leading high school in Dongguan).”

However, nearly all his classmates said in disbelief, “But your English is too weak.”

“Come on,” he said to himself. “I will study it in my spare time.”

After making this resolution, the once-naughty boy was seldom seen on the playground or spending time with other boys. He put great effort into studying English. This included reading English books aloud, reviewing what he had learned, and thinking about solving a problem independently and so on. In a word, he tried in every way to overcome this obstacle.

He made great progress, but he was still some way from getting his English up to the appropriate level.

“Come on, I can make it!” he said to himself.

He continued to study English with unrelenting effort. In the end, as if by magic, he did well enough in English to qualify for Tung Wah Junior High School.
