Dear readers, Excitement is in the air as Thanksgiving draws near. As we have four days off for the holiday, many people around me are taking the opportunity to go back home. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the third Thursday of every November in the United States. The most significant aspect of the holiday is perhaps Thanksgiving dinner. The centerpiece of the dinner is usually turkey, giving the holiday the nickname “Turkey Day.” Potato, pumpkin and cranberry are also associated with the holiday, but there are no set guidelines as to what you can eat on Thanksgiving. Did you know that shortly before Thanksgiving, a ceremony takes place at the White House? During the National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation, the president “pardons” a turkey and spares its life. Did you also know that Thanksgiving is celebrated in several other countries as well? For instance, Canada celebrates Thanksgiving on the second Monday of October! Sincerely, Bingyin |
