深圳深外国际学校小学五年级 刘睿妮 The following is a short story that I wrote. Ashlee’s blue eyes were glued to the old book that she had found in a corner of the orphanage. The weather was mild outside so she snuck out onto the patio to sit and read. Suddenly, the wind started to blow. The gray clouds were moving so fast that they looked as if they were being pushed and, sure enough, rain started pouring down. The wind became a storm and in just a few seconds it was so strong that it blew the roof of the house away. Ashlee clutched tightly to the door handle and her book. Then she knew no more. Everything went into darkness. Ashlee woke up dizzy. Her view was blurred. The green book was still in her hand but when she opened it the pages were all blank. She was terrified. Ashlee stood up and looked around. Had there been an earthquake? Ashlee wandered around clutching the book to her chest. Then she saw the strangest sight, books that had arms and legs and could carry themselves around. They were accompanied by a gentleman who appeared to be floating. The man smiled at her. A book with a sky blue cover approached her and opened itself. On it were printed the words “Follow me.” Ashlee then followed the flying book to a beautiful place where various flowers were blooming. Ashlee saw a huge room full of bookshelves that were crammed with books. The flying book clapped its hands and more books flew towards them. Then the flying book opened again and the words inside said: “I am Bookie. This is a Magical library. I hope you will take good care of us and the place.” Ashlee was amazed at the number of books in the house and felt she was in heaven. When Ashlee read a new book, she forgot about the time. Sunlight streamed down from the window. When Ashlee was bored, Bookie played the piano. The books twirled, span and danced with Ashlee in the air. Oh, what a fun thing it was! The Magical Library had so much to teach her. Days, months and years went by and Ashlee lived happily in the Magical Library. She learned everything she had ever wanted to know and some amazing things she had not even dreamt of. She sometimes wrote her thoughts in the thick green book. Ashlee closed her diary and sighed with relief. Her hair was gray, nearly white. She stood up with great difficulty and slowly walked toward the door. When she turned around and looked at the books, she smiled. All of a sudden, all the books came to fly around her. Ashlee found that she was floating, just like the gentleman she met. Gradually, Ashlee became young again. A huge green book flew toward her and landed on her arm. On the cover, the title was written in golden letters: “The Green Book of Life.” |
