We constantly heard the word “Linsanity” this year. It was the nickname of Jeremy Lin, who became an overnight NBA superstar.

    He is popular with sports fans, especially with Chinese, because of his basketball skills, and more importantly, his Chinese face.

    Some people argue that he is lucky and was just in the right place at the right time. I think he earned his success through persistence and hard work.

    It was the night when Lin helped the New York Knicks beat the Nets that caught the attention of the world. He scored 25 points, contributed seven assists, five rebounds, and had two steals. He surprised everyone! The following days saw his name trending on websites around the world. He has become a media darling. His family name “Lin” turned into a morpheme to create new words such as “Lincredible,” “Linsane,” “Linpossible.”

    Did he get his fame just because of luck? I believe luck counts a little. Lin is a hard-working basketball player. He sacrificed a lot on the way to success. He would lose the chance if he could not reach the high standards of the NBA. He scored for his team in the following seven games. Obviously, opportunities come to those who are prepared.

    The reasons his followers feel proud of him are not only because of his success but also his endeavors in making his dream come true. People believe in luck but also believe in hard work.
