Being mocked can spur us on to great things
    2013-01-30  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

   东莞市东华初级中学初三14班 梁正 指导老师:蒋坛军

As the assistant to my English teacher and one of the best students of English in my class, I thought my place in the top three was unassailable. However, I ranked just 15th in the second monthly English test of our class this semester. This was a cataclysm.

My classmate Yuan, who ranked No. 1, gloated about my poor result. I got very angry and wanted to fight him. But as I calmed down, all I felt was regret.

I decided to catch up. I bought an English reference book, and practiced the exercises after class. I finished hundreds of exercises including ones in English grammar, reading and writing. I filled the gaps in my knowledge.

My hard work started to pay off. I passed the English final exam with the highest score in my class. Yuan stopped gloating. In fact, I should thank him for teasing me. If he hadn’t teased me I may not have improved so much in such a short time.
