    Dear readers,

    Happy Chinese New Year!

It has been quite festive lately as Chinese New Year was closely followed by two other holidays — Valentine’s Day and Presidents’ Day.

Last Thursday — Valentine’s Day — was an exciting day for many. The city was filled with a sense of romance. There was an abundance of Valentine’s Day events on campus, including parties and movie nights. Residence hall staff were busy sorting and processing piles of Valentine packages. There were many long, rectangular boxes carrying flowers, and many other containers filled with surprises.

This Monday was Presidents’ Day which is also known as Washington’s Birthday. The holiday was established in honor of the first president of the United States, George Washington. A national holiday, Presidents’ Day is celebrated on the third Monday of February annually. We had Monday off as a result of the holiday — it was a much-needed three-day weekend for a lot of us.

What about you? How have you been lately?

Best wishes for the new year,

    Bingyin
