Seven courses at SZU become key majors

Seven majors at Shenzhen University will start enrolling students at a key university in the province, the university’s admissions office said on Friday.

The seven majors were all from College of Information Technology and College of Optoelectronics, said a teacher from the admissions office surnamed Yao.

The majors are electronics and information engineering, electronics science and technology, telecommunication engineering, micro-electronics science and engineering, optoelectronic information engineering, integrated circuit design and integrated circuit system, and observation and control technology and equipment.

The National College Entrance Examinations (NCEE) scores required for entering these majors may eventually exceed the entrance scores for key universities.

In the past, the required scores to enter these majors were lower than the entrance scores, meaning many students with Shenzhen hukou could be enrolled with relatively low scores.

“It might be more difficult for some local students, but in the past, more than 60 percent of the students on these majors had NCEE scores higher than key universities’ entrance scores, so it won’t be a big problem,” Yao said.

Initially, the university intended to increase the required score to take the economics major. “But economics was very popular among shenzhen students, which might bring many problems, so we decided not to increase the requirement for now,” Yao said.
