Stricter supervision needed for unlicensed teen drivers
    2013-03-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    各方呼吁就青少年飙车加强监管

Reports of accidents related to unlicensed driving of motor vehicles or electric motor cars among middle school students have raised concerns and calls for parents and schools to enforce stricter supervision.

A recent campaign by Shenzhen traffic police led to 14 students — reportedly from middle schools or vocational schools — being caught driving without a license. Traffic police have called for a concerted effort from schools and parents to raise the issue of safety awareness among students.

Gao Zhi, a psychology teacher at Shenzhen No. 2 Senior High School, said middle school students are teenagers who crave for attention and take pride in showing off their unconventional behavior on mircroblogs. Gao called on parents and schools to give guidance to the youngsters.

Schools can also organize adventurous activities such as skateboarding and diving, so that these teenagers can have an exciting experience under proper supervision. And the students should also receive instruction about using the Internet safely, so that they can enjoy the benefits of microblogs.
