Technology inspires children’s creativity
    2013-03-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    深圳市新安中学 高二(1)班 何仲豪 指导老师:周宇芳

Great inventions have usually had one purpose in common: to add convenience. But, some people argue that as technology changes our lives, it also makes users — especially children — more dependent and they become less inspired than they were in the past. I think that the opposite is true.

To begin with, because of the development of technology, children have easier access to information. As a result, they are able to acquire knowledge more easily. For example, nowadays the Internet plays a crucial role in the transmission of news and information. Children today can absorb more information in a year than that aquired by their forefathers throughout their whole lives. The richness of knowledge means that children can weigh different ways of thinking and consider different angles. They are more likely to realize the essence of things. There is no doubt that they can find more inspiration than they could in the past. Gaining more knowledge stimulates children to explore and think more actively.

They can also get more assistance from others, which may lead to more creativity. In the past, in addition to their lack of knowledge, it was hard for children to work out a confusing problem because they could perhaps not find anyone to assist them — thus leading to frustration. But now, they can ask for assistance with the use of various techonological devices or by using an Internet search engine. Thus, children can solve problems that could have prevented creativity, and they can also receive encouragement.

In addition, modern technology offers potential inventors a chance to showcase their work regardless of their background or age. In the past, people could not easily share the fruit of their efforts, and only famous people or those who made a huge breakthrough could gain the attention of the general public. But now, by demonstrating a new invention online, hundreds of thousands of viewers can be reached and their reaction can be viewed in just a few minutes. Thus, technology means success is within reach of more children than ever.
