Dear readers, The week after our break has been filled with a little more of everything — more studying, more midterms, and more campus tours. Every day, I see groups of visiting students and parents walking around campus, exploring the college. They are led by a tour guide — usually a college student — who explains the functions and amenities of various buildings and facilities. The students on the tour are mostly high school students. I would imagine that most of them are juniors or seniors deciding between prospective colleges. Speaking of seniors, most admission decisions came out recently. This means that, after handing in their college applications last fall, high school seniors have received responses from colleges on whether they have been accepted, rejected, or waitlisted. Thus, some touring students may be seniors trying to narrow down between schools they’ve been admitted to. Waitlisted students still have a chance of getting into the college they’ve been waitlisted for. They are put on the waitlist, and if the university has open spots left in a few months, those on the list may be offered admission. The chances of getting in after being waitlisted vary from school to school, although there are some statistics from previous years one can consult. Sincerely, Bingyin |
