Students at Fumin Primary School have been invited to give their opinions on the design of building on the campus, after a joint research with professional design companies. The names of the students whose suggestions are taken into consideration for future designs will be engraved on the building. Ying Ningxi from Class 2, Grade 5 said she hoped the new classroom could have concealed hooks to hang their umbrellas so that their classroom would not be covered by small puddles as students come in during a rainstorm. “The ecological garden should have an indoor lab so that we can do biology experiments on either sunny or rainy days,” Ying also said. He Jiaqi, from the same class, said the washrooms are very dark on overcast days and hopes lamps powered by solar or wind energy could be installed to brighten the area in an environmentally friendly way. The school principal, surnamed Xiang, said the students were invited to offer their own ideas and opinions to professional designers. “I hope the new building could take in the children’s creativity and leave the imprint of their inspiration on its bricks. Now they are little designers for the school building and they may grow up into designers for the country or society in the future. We are glad to help sow the seeds of their dreams and bring them closer to their dreams,” Xiang said. A designer from a local design company said she was pleasantly surprised by the children’s ideas and would pay close attention to their suggestions if her company wins the bid to do the design.
