The person I admire most is swimmer Sun Yang. He represented China in the 30th Olympic Games in London where he was a gold medallist — winning the 400m freestyle and finishing joint second in the 200m event — and he is well-known both at home and abroad. Sun was born on December 1, 1991. He is 198cm tall and weighs 89kg. There are many top swimmers in the world but, for me, only Sun is a true sports star. I began to pay attention to him when I watched him swim in the 2011 Shanghai World Swimming Championships live on TV. He was about 20 years old at the time, but he swam 1,500 meters in only 14 minutes 34 seconds, demonstrating his perfect swimming technique to the world and breaking the world record that had been set by an Australian, Albert Hackett. After the race, he told journalists, “A new competition and challenges are ahead of me. I will start from the beginning after this competition and will continue to practice. I hope to make another miracle next year!” His words touched me. At that time, I had just had a math exam and I got a very low score, which made me very frustrated. However, after watching his race and interview, I cheered up and made a new study plan for myself. Since then, Sun has been the person I admire most. Whenever I fail, I think of his words, and then I feel much more encouraged. I constantly push myself to work hard so as to realize my goals and dreams. |
