   China music festival guide (May-June)

 

   Intro Electronic Music Festival

    When: 2-11:30 p.m., May 25

    Where: Crab Island Convention Center (蟹岛会展中心)

    How much: 200 yuan presale until May 23, 300 yuan at the door

    Lineup: The Syndicate, Mickey Zhang, Yang Bing, Ouyang, David K, Patrick Yu, Huang Weiwei, and more

    Shanghai Midi Music Festival

    When: 5-9:30 p.m., May 3-5

    Where: Shanghai Century Park (上海浦东世纪公园)

    How much: 100 yuan presale, 120 yuan at the gate, or 280 yuan for a three-day pass (limited to 3,000 buyers)

    Xi’an Strawberry Music Festival

    Lineup: Info is still on the fuzzy side but there are rumors that Chinese bands Hedgehog, Second Hand Rose and Traveler Band could appear

    Getting there: Buses 2, 17, 22, 38, 46, 104, 209, 216, 263, 309, 409, 517, 703, k46 (Daming Palace Ruins Park) (大明宫国家遗址公园)

 

    Xi’an City Forest Music Festivals

    When: 11 a.m.-11 p.m., June 11-12

    Where: Xi’an Municipal Sports Park (西安城市运动公园)

    How much: 120 yuan for a single day, presale; 240 yuan for two days, presale; 150 yuan for a single day, at the gate; 300 yuan for two days, at the gate; 2,013 yuan for a VIP pass

    Lineup: Early announcements include China’s Omnipotent Youth Hotel, Finland’s Frida Andersson and Australia’s Dune Rats. More announcements to come.

    Great Wall Music Festival

    When: 2-11:30 p.m., May 11

    Where: Juyongguan Great Wall (北京居庸关长城)

    How much: 380 yuan in advance, 480 yuan presale or 580 yuan at the gate

    Lineup: DJ Andy C, David Guetta, UFO (Ultra Funky Origins), Ouyang, Chill, DJ Kami, Mansun, Ghost, DJ Spark

    Getting there: Music festival buses will take revelers directly to the festival site. Buses depart from Beijing Language University East Gate and Beijing Workers’ Stadium West Gate.

    LARGE-SCALE music festivals have become a staple in major Chinese cities over the past decade, and 2013 is set to be a big year for festivals on the mainland. Five major music festivals — Beijing Midi Music Festival, 2013 Strawberry Music Festival, Zebra Music Festival, 2013 Dali Erhai World Music Festival and Changjiang International Music Festival — took place during the May Day holiday in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Dali and Nanjing, respectively. More music festivals are scheduled across the country in May and June, including in Shenzhen, which hosts the Midi Music Festival later this month.

    Here are a few of the upcoming highlights.

 

    Midi Music Festival

    When: May 17-19

    Where: Universiade Center, Longgang District (深圳龙岗大运中心)

    How much: 100 yuan (US$16) for a one-day ticket, 240 yuan for a three-day ticket
