深圳市新安中学高二(2)班 陈欣鸿 指导老师:魏可花 Chen Xinhong, Class 2, Senoir 2, Xin’an Middle School Instructed by Wei Kehua My school held its first English-language singing competition on April 11, and it was a great success. All Senior 1 and 2 students went to the stadium to cheer for their classmates. Twelve contestants took part in the competition, including two amazing student bands. Eight teachers acted as judges. The whole contest was so competitive that even audience members clutched their hands, screaming the contestants’ names. I interviewed some contestants to get an in-depth understanding of their thoughts and feelings. Here are two conversations: C (Chen): I wonder how you felt when you were standing on the stage. S1 (Student 1): Um…I felt very nervous, of course! I couldn’t even hold my microphone tightly. C: That sounds terrible. Had you ever thought about getting first prize? S1: There were too many excellent singers among us and the number of them was much larger than I had imagined. So it won’t be easy for me to get first prize. C: Did you have a good time today? S2 (Student 2): Absolutely! I love this kind of activity, singing makes me more energetic and confident. C: Would you mind telling me your final score? S2: That’s OK. I only got 89 points but I am satisfied because what is most important is that I like music and I showed myself. I am sure I will perform better next time. I think that all contestants, not only the two competitors, had a lot of fun practicing their own songs and competing with each other. However, in spite of the high scores, the most important thing is that they had the courage to compete on stage. Everything that happened that day was almost perfect. There was only one disappointment — I saw some students standing up and leaving the stadium when singers were performing on stage. I think their behavior was very rude. I hold the belief that the audience should respect the performers. It is important and necessary to think in other’s shoes. Suppose you are a participant and you have spent a large amount of time preparing a song, reciting the lyrics, following the beat, and even adding some dance moves to the beat and so on, only to find that there are a few people listening to your song attentively, while others are leaving. You couldn’t feel happy and confident. The respect and applause received by singers in a competition mean everything for them. Despite the misbehavior from some audience members, the competition has left a deep impression on me. I feel proud even just as an audience member, and worthwhile to share the competition and my views on paper. |
