An amazing mock public hearing
    2013-05-15  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

   深圳市新安中学 高一(12)班 饶子林 指导老师:杨柳青

Rao Zilin, Class 12, Senior 1,

Xin’an Middle School Instructed by Yang Liuqing

On March 26, Senior 1 students from classes 2 and 12 at Xin’an Middle School successfully held a mock public hearing on improving the services of the school cafeteria.

Paticipants acted as teacher representatives, the cafeteria manager, cafeteria workers, food experts and a moderator. With their wonderful performances, the hearing turned out to be a funny, attractive, and fierce debate instead of several rounds of boring speeches and statements.

After the moderator introduced the honored guests, students began to express their concerns on the poor food and service. Zizi, acting as the “modern woman” from Class 12, impressed me the most with her speech given in a gracious style, with proper and graceful body language. Her presentation caught the attention of everyone present. What’s more, she was very outspoken.

The food experts, eager to defend themselves, were so excited that they even spoke overtime, and offered extra information on our health and dietary habits. The highlight was when the cafeteria workers promised to improve their work. During the discussion, a hungry girl even shouted that it was time for dinner, which made all of us burst into laughter.

Generally speaking, this mock public hearing gave us a good chance to voice our concerns and call for involvement in the school’s management.

I really appreciate and long for this kind of activity, through which we have not only practiced oral skills and self-organization abilities, but also learned to look at things from different angles.
