Martin Li martin.mouse@163.com CHINESE culture will become a dominant force in the world, well-known American investor Jim Rogers said yesterday in Shenzhen. Rogers is the chairman of Rogers Holdings and Beeland Interests, Inc. He was a co-founder of the Quantum Fund and creator of the Rogers International Commodities Index. “Western culture’s dominant role in the world is in the process of changing. Chinese culture is coming to the forefront again,” Rogers said in a speech at the 4th International Digital Culture Industry Investment Summit, a high-profile activity of the ICIF. Rogers said Western countries used to worry about China’s trademark regulations and copyright protections. However, he said, China has made improvements in those areas. “More foreign artists are delighted to come to China because they know their works will be protected,” Rogers said. Rogers effusively praised China throughout his speech. “China has been great in the world three or four times in its history. After each of its declines, it would rise again. Now it’s on the rise again. I expect it to be the most successful country of the 21st century,” he said. While many audience members likely expected the influential investor to say something about cultural industries, Rogers said only that: “The culture industry in China will be extremely exciting. I hope my children will witness its development.” At the beginning of his speech, Rogers showed video of his two daughters reciting an ancient Chinese poem and singing a Chinese song, in an effort to show his commitment to Chinese culture. Rogers has settled in Singapore. Following the speech, Rogers signed a letter of interest with FAB Enterprise Group, a Beijing-based culture enterprise that’s listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Details of the potential investment were not announced. Rogers was invited to be an honorary chairman of the summit.
