Jiang Mengyun, Wang Yuanyuan Cheekywang@hotmail.com MANY overseas visitors said they were impressed by Chinese cultural items, particularly traditional items, exhibited at the ICIF. “I’m very glad to see so many traditional Chinese cultural products and many new technologies. It was a great exhibition, and good for foreigners learning about China,” said Bruce Spencer, an English teacher from the United States who lives in Shenzhen. It was Spencer’s first visit to the festival. He said he saw an advertisement for free tickets for foreigners, so he decided to come and see the annual event. Many foreigners found the Intangible Cultural Heritage Hall the most interesting. “I’ve been in Shenzhen for two years. It was the first time that I’ve seen so many interesting Chinese traditional techniques. I even tried to learn embroidery, but it was too hard for me. It was a very interesting experience,” said Kay Louise Anderson, an Australian who works for a trading company in Shenzhen. Anderson said she bought many small gifts at the fair to send to friends and family members in Australia. Some foreigners hoped that events like this could be held in Shenzhen more often. “Fairs and exhibitions are great places to see interesting things, gain business opportunities and meet people,” said Jason Paxman, a British businessman who lives in Shenzhen. “I think that Shenzhen should have more events like this, and not just for business. These events can not only bring fun to the local people but also help us know more about local culture and China.” |
