In a recent debate, a topic about whether employees should work at home drew my attention. As far as I’m concerned, people should work at their office instead. First, stress from the workplace can stimulate one’s proficiency at work. A common argument for those who would rather work at home is that the stress of work robs them of happiness. In fact, however, stress isn’t a bad thing, as it is often assumed to be. Stress is a part of daily life and there is no way to avoid it. A certain proportion of stress stimulates one’s motivation. Second, people will pay more attention to their work at an office. Working at home is rather relaxed. It is easy for people to take a nap or be distracted when feeling a bit tired or bored, so it is difficult to keep a high working momentum. If the same scenario appears in one’s office, the worker probably will concentrate on his or her work subconsciously because of diligent co-workers. Last but not least, working at an office can improve one’s competitiveness in society. One has to learn how to cooperate with others, because most work needs a team to complete, which requires a good working attitude and teamwork spirit. And one will learn how to handle the different views from people with diverse backgrounds properly. In short, I think working at an office is the best way to maintain productivity. |
