Li Bingyin is studying finance at the Stern School of Business at New York University. Internships Dear readers, Last time, I talked about summer classes. This time, I’d like to tell you about another way to spend the summer. Throughout the school year, some students choose to obtain part-time jobs in their spare time, whether it is on the weekends or after class. With even more time during summer break, some people apply for internships. Internships are usually career-oriented and require more time on a daily basis. The work load and content of some are very similar to full-time jobs, though not all internships are paid. Typically, applying for an internship entails two steps. The first is submitting documents, while the second is attending interviews. The most basic documents are resumes and cover letters. Students submit these documents to the company they are interested in working at, and then await the company’s reply. If the employer is interested in the candidate, they will contact the student and offer an interview. A final decision is made after the interview. This process also applies to full-time jobs. For many, internships are a great way to gain experience and learn about different careers. The experience is also helpful with the transition from college to career. Sincerely, Bingyin |
