Recently, Marissa Mayer, the current CEO of Yahoo, announced that Yahoo employees are required to work in the office, which has led to a heated debate among people about the mode of work. Should we work at home or spend long daytime hours in an office? Personally, I believe people should work at an office. I think the disadvantages of working at home outweigh the advantages. To begin with, I think working at an office can boost the efficiency of work. Because once we sit in an office, we subconsciously maintain an attitude of maintaining a positive working mode. With people surrounding us working so hard, we are somewhat encouraged by such an atmosphere. An office has a series of disciplines to help employees pay more attention to work than when at home. On the contrary, working at home we are easily bothered by our family members, or distracted by TV shows and other stuff. Besides, working at an office can help us to learn to communicate and collaborate with different people. We can form a better understanding of people around us via face-to-face talking and conferences. But if we work at home, the only possible communication with others is through the Internet or mobile phones, which may cause some misunderstanding. Additionally, a business environment such as an office usually provides complete office facilities to support work, such as printers and fax machines. This equipment is not only convenient for employees, but also improves working efficiency. But if working at home, we’d have to spend extra money on the equipment and even so, it would not be as convenient as at an office. In conclusion, from my point of view, both companies and individuals can benefit a lot from employees working in offices. |
