Science sounds very strict and boring. But as we learn about it, we will find the reason why scientists prefer staying in a laboratory for hours and even days to conduct many science activities. It is all because of the mystery of science.
It was a Sunday, but our school was still open to students. We, student correspondents, grouped at the school gate. The street was very quiet. Teachers and adults were talking about the things we were about to study and the place where we were heading: Shenzhen Science Museum.
There is only one science museum in Shenzhen. Like other museums, it displayed many exhibits that we seldom found in our lives or had never seen before. Some of the exhibits described phenomena that we couldn’t understand. But we knew it was neither magic nor a miracle, it was just something that someone had discovered or invented, and we just lacked the knowledge to make sense of it.
The museum is divided into two parts: an outdoor exhibition area and an indoor exhibition room.
When we arrived, the museum was not open yet. The newspaper editor who came with us decided to give us an “English class” to kill the time.
When the “English class” was over, everyone rushed into the museum and began to explore the exhibits. I found two exhibits that were amazing. One was the Ames Trapezoid Window. When it rotated, it seemed that it only swayed side to side. My father and I once made a small one at home and I kept it for a long time. The other one was called a crossing millstone. I couldn’t figure out its principles.
The exhibition room deep inside the museum was fascinating. When I put my hand in a drum-like bin, I could hear the sound of the drum. And when I put my ear near a panpipe, I could hear the sound of the panpipe. It was fantastic!
The mirrors in another exhibition room had incredible visual effects. When I dug a hole in the ground and put four mirrors inside it, I could make a deep hole that had no bottom.
Science is not magic or a miracle. It’s found and applied by humans. It is very important and we need it. Science is popular because everyone likes to explain the mystery of nature. I felt lucky to join the activity.
