The new school year — preparing to move in
    2013-08-28  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    Dear readers,

School is about to begin. In a few more days we’ll all be back in the classroom taking notes, or in our dorms hanging out with friends. Though I’ll sure miss the summer vacation, I’m also looking forward to the new school year, and there is indeed much to prepare for.

One of the first tasks on hand is moving in. Aside from packing my personal belongings like clothes and books, I also have to take care of getting furniture, including items for the kitchen. Some dorms are equipped with a kitchen, which may come with stoves, refrigerators, microwaves and ovens included. However, items such as fridges and microwaves are also available for students to rent. Most people choose to share a fridge/microwave and split the cost with roommates.

Although there are many options for obtaining furniture for the dorms out there, not all furniture is allowed in the room. Personal sofas and couches, for instance, are prohibited since they create a safety hazard. Additionally, hazardous items such as candles are not allowed either.

There seems to be quite a few rules about moving in to a dorm. For first-year students, especially, moving in can be tedious. Luckily, there are many tips and hints online which are very helpful. You can also consult senior students who have more experience. As September comes around the corner, there is much to prepare, and even more to anticipate.

Good luck with the new school year!

    Sincerely,

    Bingyin
