L I Q I becomes new ‘Voice of China’ winner
    2013-10-09  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Li Qi won the second season of popular talent show “The Voice of China” on Monday.

After three rounds of competition in the final event, the other two finalists, Zhang Hengyuan and Xuanxuan, placed second and third, respectively, local media reported yesterday.

The last of the top four contestants, Jin Runji, was eliminated in the first round of the final event.

Li is a 23-year-old native of Xuzhou in Jiangsu Province. He graduated from the music school of Jiangsu Normal University and once won first prize in a university singing contest. In 2011, he held a small solo concert at the university.

On “The Voice of China,” he became a protege of well-known Taiwanese singer A Mei.

Interestingly, the four contestants in the final were not the five most popular contestants in a vote by netizens. Other contestants, such as Yao Beina, Meng Nan and Lin Yuqun, attracted more attention among netizens, but could have raised concerns about elimination because they’re professional singers.

“It’s a good thing to give more opportunities to grass-roots, amateur singers, but it’s not good to do that on purpose,” one netizen wrote, arguing against those concerns. “Those who sing the best should win the contest.”

The second season of “The Voice of China” aired between July 12 and Monday, with coaches including respected industry figures Wang Feng, Na Ying, Harlem Yu, and A Mei.(Wang Yuanyuan)
