乔·怀特导演《彼得·潘》 Peter Pan is getting ready to fly once again — this time for Warner Bros. Joe Wright, the British filmmaker best known for his many period pieces starring Keira Knightley, is in talks to direct the movie, which would give Pan the “Batman Begins” treatment, rebooting the character with a big origin movie. Warner Bros. is very high on the project, which Sarah Schechter is overseeing, and making it one of its priorities*. The studio now is the latest one to have its own “Pan” project. Columbia is developing “Pan” with Channing Tatum and Joe Roth producing. And Disney, which made the classic animated feature, is adapting the young adult novel “Peter and the Starcatchers,” with Gary Ross attached as director. But the “Pan” story has proven to have staying power over the decades because of its deep themes — the loss of innocence*, childhood versus adulthood, parental abandonment*, and immortality*. And the fantasy element can be dialed up or down as much as the storyteller wants. Wright makes for an interesting choice. He directed “Pride & Prejudice,” “Atonement” and “Anna Karenina,” all costume dramas that are romantic and tragic. He also directed the off-beat action movie “Hanna,” one of his few modern day set movies (“The Soloist” is another), that was very grounded and featured an electronic score by The Chemical Brothers.(SD-Agencies) |
