My view on ‘Modern Family’

“Modern Family” is one of my favorite TV programs. It is a famous American sitcom and has won numerous awards. The show revolves around three families who are interrelated through Jay Prichett and his children, Claire and Mitchell.

The first family consists of Jay and his remarried wife, Gloria, who has a 14-year-old son, Manny, from Gloria’s previous marriage. When I saw the couple for the first time, I thought that Gloria was the “gold digger” type, but that proved to be wrong as the story developed. There are many interesting anecdotes in their life. For instance, Gloria’s oral English is always a little confusing to people, and one day when Jay wanted a saxophone, Gloria presented him with a “sexy phone,” which had big red lips on it. Jay was speechless and his amusing expression made me laugh loudly.

The next one is more like an ordinary family, whose members include Claire, Phil and their three kids. The naughty children often create troubles, which drives Claire crazy. But Phil doesn’t mind because he wants to be a cool father. What impresses me most is the couple’s plain but loving life, especially what Phil once said: “To those we love, we will do all sorts of strange things. There are always barriers along the way, but we want to give our best to them. This is certainly a tiring job, but also is the best work in the world.”

The last one, of course, is a very special couple. Mitchell and Cameron are gay, and they adopted a baby. Sometimes they do some ridiculous and funny things. The two are adorable and I admire their pure love. I am very inspired by what Cameron said, “Each of us has our own fear which will never stop, so what you can do is to pray that everything goes well. Maybe the thing is not what you want, but there is always surprise.”

All in all, not only is “Modern Family” a meaningful comedy, but it’s also a touching TV series. If you watch it just once, you will be hooked.
