    Madonna tops Forbes list

    Madonna, 55, easily surpassed* singer Lady Gaga and rocker Bon Jovi as the highest-paid musician in 2013, Forbes* said on November 19.

    Madonna earned US$125 million, most of which was from her successful MDNA tour, which grossed US$305 million, as well as merchandise sold at concerts and a clothing line and fragrance.

    

    Director hunted for violation

    Authorities have been unable to find Zhang Yimou, one of China’s best-known movie directors, to investigate allegations* that he has violated* China’s one-child policy, Xinhua News Agency said on November 20.

    In May, online reports said that Zhang had at least seven children and could be liable for* a 160-million -yuan (US$26.3 million) fine.

    

    Singapore wins at GHA

    A family drama from Singapore made history on Saturday by becoming the country’s first film to win the top prize at the Golden Horse Awards*.

    “Ilo Ilo” won best feature film. Anthony Chen took home prizes for best new director and best original screenplay, while Yeo Yann Yann picked up the trophy for best supporting actress.

    

    Swift wins big at AMA

    Country-pop star Taylor Swift won big at the American Music Awards on Sunday, taking home four wins including the night’s top prize for artist of the year.

    Swift, 23, won artist of the year for the third time, the most times an artist has won the category. She also won favorite female pop/rock artist, female country artist and country album for her 2012 record “Red,” which featured songs about love and heartbreak.(SD-Agencies)
