Cyrus named best artist of 2013

    Miley Cyrus, the pop star who caused a sensation* with her performance at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, was named Best Artist of the Year 2013 by the cable TV network on December 10.

    MTV said the singer dominated the music charts and headlines with the release of her album “Bangerz,” her jaw-dropping performances at awards shows and her hosting stint on the television sketch comedy show “Saturday Night Live.”

    Rolling Stones heading to Macao

    British rockers The Rolling Stones will play a concert in Macao on March 9, as part of its “14 on Fire” tour.

    The Stones will play the 15,000-capacity Cotai Arena at the Venetian Macao.

    The show is part of an Asian tour, which will start in Abu Dhabi with dates in Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

    Beyonce releases new album

    U.S. pop singer Beyonce surprised fans with the release of her fifth solo studio album on December 13, which features 14 new songs and 17 videos and caused a stir* on Twitter.

    The 32-year-old Grammy-winning performer said she wanted to release the music in a new way, in order to connect more directly with her fans.

    After she announced the album, it was immediately available worldwide exclusively on iTunes.

    Comedian under fire for remarks

    A formal request by Beijing TV that calls for other television networks to stage a united boycott* of the famous comedian Guo Degang has caused a stir on Chinese online social media over the weekend.

    Guo was accused of defiant remarks on Weibo last month, which was widely believed to be mocking the death of the television network’s head Wang Xiaodong, with words in allusion to* Wang’s given name.(SD-Agencies)
