Residents complain about roadside parking and the charging policy because the city does not have enough parking areas. Shenzhen should work on building more parking lots before charging drivers who park their cars on the roads.

    — Bi Guojun, headmaster of Guangming New Zone Senior High School

Many residents think that the move is only to increase their expenses on private cars. The city should restrict the uses of government-owned vehicles before charging more from drivers. They should also promise that fees at parking lots will not increase because of the surge of roadside parking fees.

    — Zhu Keheng, member of the city’s CPPCC

The transport department can introduce data analysis and cloud computing to ease traffic congestion, and make different policies for different situations. Just simply charging fees and building roads will not solve the traffic problems.

    — Nie Zhuqing, member of the city’s CPPCC

Roads are limited public resources. Individuals should pay for occupying public resources even if they just park their cars for a few minutes. So it is reasonable to charge them.

    — Yang Qin, deputy of the city’s MPC
