    Zhang settles libel case

    Actress Zhang Ziyi has reached an undisclosed settlement* with a U.S.-based news website that she had sued for libel*, according to an AP report on December 18.

    Boxun News says it has retracted* its “negative and untrue” reports that she was a prostitute* who had sexual relations with Chinese government officials.

    

    Creator of ‘The Walking Dead’ sues AMC

    A creator behind the hit TV series “The Walking Dead” is suing the cable network AMC, claiming that he was cheated out* of profits.

    Frank Darabont, who developed the TV show and was fired after the first season, filed the lawsuit on December 17 in a New York State Supreme Court.

    Darabont said that the way AMC is calculating the show’s licensing fees is depriving* him and other participants of tens of millions of dollars.

    

    NBA star Wade engaged

    Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union are engaged.

    The Miami heat star proposed to his longtime girlfriend on Saturday and the actress accepted. They announced the news through social media.

    “She said YES!!!” Wade posted to his Twitter and Instagram accounts.

    

    ‘Grandmaster’ on Oscars’ list

    Films from Cambodia, Palestine and Bosnia-Herzegovina made the shortlist of candidates vying* for the best foreign language film Oscar nomination, the Academy Awards organizer said on December 20.

    Acclaimed Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai’s ode to martial arts, “The Grandmaster,” made the list. The art house director, considered one of the world’s top filmmakers and best-known for dramas “Chungking Express” and “In the Mood for Love,” has never had a film nominated for an Oscar.(SD-Agencies)
