‘Iron Man 3’ tops 2013 box office

    Comic book blockbuster* “Iron Man 3” was the highest-earning film of 2013 around the world.

    The film made US$1.2 billion, according to online movie tracker Box Office Mojo.

    Animated comedy “Despicable Me 2” came in at No. 2 with global takings of US$918m.

    In the third slot was “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” which made US$795 million.

    ‘Sherlock’ returns from the dead

    Fans of BBC TV series “Sherlock Holmes” have taken to Twitter in droves after the first episode of the new season hit screens on January 1.

    Hundreds of viewers took to the microblogging site to air their thoughts on the eagerly anticipated opening episode, which was broadcast in Britain on New Year’s Day.

    Kaley Cuoco gets married

    “The Big Bang Theory” star Kaley Cuoco is starting off 2014 as a Mrs.

    Cuoco’s representative, Melissa Kates, said the actress wed tennis player Ryan Sweeting in a New Year’s Eve ceremony at a ranch* in Santa Susana, California.

    Afterward, the 28-year-old Cuoco posted a few photos with her 26-year-old husband on her Instagram account. The lovebirds got engaged on September 25 after just three months of dating.

    2013’s best-selling U.S. album

    Justin Timberlake “The 20/20 Experience” and Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” finished 2013 as the year’s top selling album and song in the United States, respectively, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

    Timberlake’s “20/20,” which was released on March 19, sold 2.43 million in 2013 and is the only album that sold more than 2 million copies this past year.

    “20/20” is also the smallest-selling year-end No. 1 album since SoundScan began tracking music sales in 1991. (SD-Agencies)
