    Rocker and actor to join gala

    More details about the annual Chinese New Year celebration, China Central Television’s (CCTV) Spring Festival Gala*, have been disclosed. Renowned Chinese rock singer Cui Jian has been invited to perform at the gala for the first time in more than 20 years and veteran* actor Zhang Guoli will join the gala as one of the five hosts.

    

    Campion to head film jury

    Oscar-winning New Zealand director Jane Campion will head the jury* for the 67th Cannes Film Festival in May, the festival announced on January 7.

    Campion, who won an Oscar for best screenplay* for her 1993 film “The Piano” and is the only woman ever to win the top Cannes prize, the Palme d’or, for that same film, succeeds U.S. director Steven Spielberg, who headed the jury last year.

    

    Timberlake, Bullock sweep People’s Choice

    Actress Sandra Bullock swept the 40th People’s Choice Awards on January 8 with four wins, cementing* her status as a favorite among the fan-selected winners, while singer Justin Timberlake dominated the music categories with three wins.

    Bullock, 49, picked up three awards for favorite movie actress, dramatic movie actress and comedy movie actress for her roles in existential* space drama “Gravity” and in comedy “The Heat.” She also won favorite movie duo alongside her “Gravity” co-star George Clooney.

    

    Watson dating Oxford student

    After kicking long-term boyfriend William Adamowicz into touch, “Harry Potter” star Emma Watson is seeing Oxford University student Matthew Janney.

    A source told Daily Mirror: “It’s early days but they’re very much in to each other... They make a great couple.”

    The relationship emerged days after news emerged that Watson, 23, had split with millionaire’s son Adamowicz in the summer. (SD-Agencies)
