‘Tonight Show’ a ratings hit

    Jimmy Fallon’s debut as the host of NBC’s long-running “The Tonight Show” was a ratings* hit for the U.S. broadcaster.

    Ratings firm Nielsen said 11.3 million people watched him take over the show on the evening of February 17. But the audience fell short of the 14.6 million viewers who saw Jay Leno sign off as host of the program.

    ‘My Love From the Star’

    “My Love From the Star,” a popular South Korean romantic TV series, has received millions of clicks on Chinese video-sharing sites since its premiere in December.

    The 21-episode drama is about an alien who landed on Earth 400 years ago in Korea’s Joseon Dynasty. He never gets old and falls in love with a top actress in the modern era.

    The drama is airing on South Korea’s SBS TV channel on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

    Pink to appear at the Oscars

    Singer Pink will appear at this year’s Oscars, producer Craig Zadan announced on February 21.

    The producers did not specify what role Pink would play on the show, other than to say that she would take part in “a highly anticipated moment on the broadcast.”

    The only special moment that Zadan and Meron have announced is a 75th anniversary tribute to “The Wizard of Oz.” The show’s theme is a tribute to movie heroes.

    Maria von Trapp dead at 99

    Maria von Trapp, a member of the Austrian family whose escape from Nazi Germany and subsequent musical career inspired the famed musical “The Sound of Music,” has died at the age of 99.

    Von Trapp died on February 18 but the news was confirmed on Saturday by her half-brother Johannes von Trapp. Von Trapp died of natural causes at her home in Vermont.(SD-Agencies)
