SZ schools ranked among top Chinese high schools
    2014-02-26  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Three Shenzhen schools have been nominated among the top 260 senior high schools in China by a China research center headquartered in Washington D.C., capital city of the United States, the Daily Sunshine reported.

Shenzhen Middle School, Shenzhen Foreign Languages School and Shenzhen Senior High School were listed as 138, 151 and 199, respectively, on the list that is topped by Beijing’s High School Affiliated to Renmin University.

The three Shenzhen schools, plus Shenzhen Experimental School, are hailed as the city’s four prestigious schools for their strong faculties and achievements in teaching. Each year, large numbers of elite students apply for these famed schools. A spokesperson from Shenzhen Middle School said the ranking was in recognition for its past success and encourages its future operations.

The list was compiled by the center after more than one year’s effort. Evaluations were made from multiple perspectives, including a school’s facility strength, environment, infrastructure, college enrollment rate, rate of students’ oversea studies, the average spending on a student and whether the school has received donations from alumni.

The China research center was established by MIT alumni in 2006 with an intention to analyze Chinese society with full-scale data and let China be recognized by the world. The research center said the statistics didn’t take students’ performance in ordinary exams into account but included the rate of enrollment with domestic colleges and overseas colleges. The ranking also received support from the Ministry of Education.
