Taiwan singer Jay Chou revealed on Saturday that he intends to give NT$10.8* million (US$446,800) in financial aid to 300 needy students in Taiwan over the next five years, reported Taiwan media. The Mandopop* superstar made the announcement at a media conference, during a special event which gave him a chance to meet some of the children he had helped so far. Chou has donated NT$9.72 million since 2009 and had helped about 1,350 Taiwan children afford basic education, Chou took the time to answer questions from the children at the event, and was very candid* when asked about how he became a singer. “When I started out, I didn’t really think about being a singer. I knew how to play the piano, so I hoped to be a pianist. “Because I didn’t study at the time, I didn’t manage to get into university, so I could only go on Jacky Wu’s show … and join a talent competition. That’s how I got into the business,” explained Chou. The 35-year-old singer was very happy to meet with the children, but was a little perturbed* when one of them addressed him as “Uncle Jay Chou,” and clarified that he should be called “Big brother Jay Chou” instead.(SD-Agencies) |
