Bai Qing, a Chinese actress who starred in many teleplays, died of hepatic encephalopathy* on Monday at the age of 76.

Born in 1938, Bai made her TV debut when she was 60. Since then, her portrayal of aged women, often mothers, left a deep impression on directors and viewers. She also performed with famed Chinese comedian Gong Hanlin in several popular sketches.

She starred in several TV dramas, including “Judge Lao Zhang’s Anecdotes,” “Households’ Matter,” “The Crazy Neighbors” and “Beauty of the Contract.” She was also featured in “Shen Zhou 11” and “The Story of Zhou Enlai.”(Tan Yifan)
