Have you ever thought about packing up all your stuff and heading to New York City by yourself? Can you imagine a 5-foot-tall girl jumping on the stage and singing “hey hey you you I don’t like your girlfriend” out loud? Would you be brave enough to express yourself in public even if the cost is to be regarded as someone who “misbehaves?” There’s a girl who has done all of these things. She’s like a sparkling star that glows in the music field. She has a beautiful name — Avril Lavigne. Lavigne, a Canadian singer, has been in the music industry for 11 years. Her fifth album was released last November, called “Avril Lavigne.” In 2002, this then 17-year-old girl went to New York City by herself to work on her first album. The result astonished the world. The album “Let Go” sold 1.8 million copies and Lavigne won four Juno Awards in 2003. Some tracks in this album quickly caught on, such as “Skater Boy,” “Complicated” and “Losing Grip.” In almost every music video, Lavigne dressed like a tomboy who loved wearing ties and baggy pants. She stood out by creating an outrageous, edgy style. As time went by, she grew up and experienced more things in her life, so she tried various types of music in later albums. Lavigne also spreads her influence in other fields. She set up her own foundation and clothing line, Abbey Dawn. She said that dreams are hopes, and she would try to support people who really need help as much as possible. Through Lavigne’s story, we can see that there is nothing wrong with being unique. Maybe not everyone can be famous, but everyone can make marvelous and special things. Lavigne speaks the truth: “If you’re different, embrace it. If you want to do something different and go with a certain style or vibe — rock it! It’s good to be your own self.” |
