Contractual spirit

Recently, my father asked me to help him type up a contract because he is not so familiar with computer. I gave the time and quickly finished typing. After I checked it for several times, I confidently submitted it to him.

I felt so nervous when my father read it and his face turned serious. He told me that I had mistyped the term “closed bid” as “bid.” Hearing his correction, I felt somewhat relieved because I thought this term would not cause a big problem. To my surprise, my relief infuriated him. He scolded me by saying that “indeed, ‘closed bid’ sounds like ‘bid’ with a modifier, but their meanings are quite different. Your mistake will make the bidders act differently from our original design, and could incur unfairness in the bidding! If we have no contractual spirit, we cannot do any business at all, and our society will collapse.”

After finishing the revision of the contract, I read some information online and learned many negative outcomes of disobeying contractual spirit.
