Foreign-language information necessary: school head
    2014-06-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

YOUNG-JIN SUH, the principal of Korea International School in Yanshan Community, told Shenzhen Daily on Sunday that it is increasingly necessary to use English and other foreign languages to reach out to expats in Shenzhen.

“Although I have been here (in Shenzhen) for more than three years, my Chinese is very limited, so I cannot understand Chinese information like government notices,” said Suh.

“It would be a great service if the city provided more information and services in English for expats. Also, most of us don’t understand Chinese polices, such as visa regulations. Information about such an important thing should be known to every expat,” said Suh.

Despite the lack of official services in English, Suh said the community is very international.

“There are a lot of international people in this area. I don’t feel any discomfort living here with so many shops and restaurants for visitors. And even many Chinese can speak English,” said Suh, who uses metro services quite often.

He added that the public transportation in the community is almost perfect.

“I can go anywhere I want,” he said.
