Ann Hui to receive Asian Filmmaker of the Year award
    2014-08-06  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    许鞍华将获釜山电影节大奖

Entertainment trade publication Variety reported that celebrated Hong Kong director Ann Hui will receive the Asian Filmmaker of the Year award at this year’s Busan International Film Festival in South Korea.

Hui’s latest work, “The Golden Era,” which is set to close this year’s festival in Venice, will also be given a gala screening in Busan.

Set in the 1930s, Hui’s latest film, “The Golden Era,” tells the story of Xiao Hong, a notable figure in modern Chinese literature.

Festival organizers said that Hui was picked for the award because of her contribution to Asian filmmaking, according to Variety.

The director is credited with pioneering Hong Kong’s “golden era” of cinema.

The 10-day Busan International Film Festival begins on October 2.
