Sci-fi* action movie “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” was a major hit among Chinese moviegoers.The sequel opened in China last weekend and earned a massive US$47 million in box office. The previous “Planet of the Apes” movie earned over US$480 million globally.

    20th Century Fox said the sequel’s debut in China was one of the best in history for a Western movie, in line with “Iron Man 3” and “Transformers: Age of Extinction.” Thanks to the Chinese opening, “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” topped the international weekend chart, toppling “Guardians of the Galaxy” from the top spot.
