When the Xiamen-Shenzhen high-speed railway started operations at the end of last year, the time it takes to travel between the two coastal cities was shortened to just within four hours. Many Shenzheners choose to spend weekends in Xiamen, a city famous for its low-speed lifestyle and seaside scenery. Located on the southeastern coast of China, Xiamen is also called Egret Island because it is home to hundreds of thousands of egrets. The city boasts an abundance of tourist attractions such as islands, mountains, temples and parks. Gulangyu Island, South Putuo Temple and other tourist spots such as Jimei, Hulishan Canon Platform, Wanshouyan Park and Xiamen University are all must-see locations. On the eve of the seven-day National Day Holiday, which falls Oct. 1, we have selected some pictures to give you a better look at this fun and popular city. (SD-Agencies) |
