    Mu’s ‘One Child’ on Oscars’ shortlist

    Chinese director Mu Zijian’s film “One Child” has made the shortlist* of eight documentary short subject contenders* up for an Academy Award.

    Mu, a Sichuan native who is currently a freelance documentary filmmaker based in the United States, explores the lives of the parents who lost their only child in the 2008 Sichuan earthquake in China in this documentary.

    

    One Direction tops under-30 rich list

    One Direction was named Britain’s richest entertainers under 30, but don’t tell second-place Daniel Radcliffe, who was none too amused by the result.

    Heat Magazine released its annual rich list of young British stars this week, and for the second year in a row, global pop phenomenon One Direction topped the list with a US$125 million fortune. “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe had to settle for runner-up again, with his personal fortune estimated to be US$102 million.

    

    ‘Trash’ wins big at Rome fest

    Director Stephen Daldry’s “Trash” took home the BNL People’s Choice Gala Award on Saturday night at the Rome Film Festival.

    Daldry’s first three feature films all earned him best director Academy Award nominations. His latest, “Trash,” explores the corruption in Brazil’s political and police forces as seen through the eyes of three teenage boys who stumble upon a wallet in a landfill that holds the secret to one politician’s downfall.

    

    ‘Lego Movie’ directors to write sequel

    Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who wrote and directed this year’s smash hit “The Lego Movie,” have signed on to script the sequel for Warner Bros.

    It is not yet known if the duo will direct the sequel. The next film in the Lego franchise will be “Ninjago,” opening on September 23, 2016. Warners is said to be eyeing a 2017 release for its in-development Lego Batman spinoff, with two currently untitled Lego movies set for 2018 and 2019.(SD-Agencies)
